Import Specific Content from One Course to Another
You can copy course content such as assignments, modules, pages, and discussions from previous Canvas courses into existing courses. You only have access to copy content from courses in which you are enrolled as a user with instructor permissions.
This option allows you to copy specific content into existing courses. Care must be taken if you are importing into a course with existing content, so you do not lose existing content.
Notes:
Importing a course more than once may have unintended consequences.
You do NOT want to include course settings if using this option because it can overwrite template settings, course navigation, grade schemes and grade posting policies.
However, if you need to import a group of activities it may be helpful to use the Import Specific Content option to import from one course to another. For example if you needed to create new assignments or quizzes for a course that you have multiple sections, you could create them in one section or a master, then import ONLY those new assignments to each of the other sections. Using the Copy To feature could become tedious if you have 25 new assignments or quizzes.
It will be very important to Select Specific Content (rather than All content) in the import steps. When you use this option, once you click Import the import will process briefly, in the Current Job progress area click the Select Content button. You will just expand the arrows on the Content Groupsto see the items inside (exp: assignments, quizzes). Select the check box in front of the items you want to import and make sure nothing else is selected (double check to make sure course settings is unchecked). Once the desired items are selected, you click the Select Content button at the bottom and then wait for the import to complete.
*Very Important Note: Anytime you use the Import Specific Content to graded activities from one course to another, the activity will go into an Imported Assignment category on the Assignment Index page. That category will be visible in the gradebook and the graded activity may not/will not calculate into grades correctly until moved into the correct category on the Assignment Index Page.
Go to the Assignment link in the course navigation, locate and move all graded activities into the correctcategory, then delete the Imported Assignment category. This is a step that should be completed every time you copy a graded activity to your course from any other course.
