You can edit item bank items in New Quizzes. Edits will display in any quiz that uses the item. If students have submitted answers for an item, you can only edit a copy of the item. Editing a copy creates separate statistical data from the previous version of the item.

When editing an item, you can also add tags to the item. Tags can be used to search for items within item banks. Added tags display on the item in the bank and in any quiz that uses the item.

Open the Quiz or Item Bank

Open the New Quiz you need to edit a question, or go directly to the Item Bank.

In a New Quiz

When the question are visible on the New Quiz, you can click the Edit (pencil) option for the question you need to change. Once clicked, a pop-up message will indicate the Question is a banked item with a button to Edit in Bank. Click the Edit in Bank option, a flyout panel on the right will give you the ability to edit the question. When you have finished editing, click the Done button at the top or bottom of the panel to return to the New Quiz.

If the questions are added as a random sets from the bank, chose the Item Bank button at the top of the quiz Build page. (Alternatively, users can go to the Item Bank first to locate the questions that need editing. This method will eliminate the flyout panel and give users a full screen to work in. Depending on how many questions that you may be editing could determine the choice you make. Either way you access the Item Bank questions, it will give you the same options. See below)

In Item Bank

Click the Item Bank link in the course navigation. Search for and locate the Item Bank with the Question you need to edit questions. Open the bank that contains the question needed to be edited. Click the the Edit (pencil) option for the question you need to change. When you have finished editing, click the Done button at the top or bottom.

If students have already taken a quiz with the question you are editing, you will see a pop-up message with the option to Edit a copy. This creates a new copy of the question for future students who get the question, without modifying the question on previous attempts. There will not be a duplicate copy of the question in the bank, however. (It may seem confusing at first, but it makes complete sense once you have done this a few times. You will only see the corrected question in the bank, but if you go back and look at a previous attempt you would see the question the way it was before the correction.)
